Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) is coming to India! We are in the process of setting up a wholly owned, integrated Global In-House Center, (GIC), in Bangalore to build a corporate team who will play an important role as HBC executes its strategic plan. This center will house approximately 450 highly talented individuals in the first two years and the office has potential to expand as the business grows. We will begin to build our team in Bangalore focused on Information Technology, Information Security, Finance and Accounting, and may then scale the operations to build capabilities in various other functions.

Reporting Relationships: The Offshore Environment Engineer will report to the QA Manager and coordinate with IT Infrastructure teams


Major Responsibilities:

The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for day-to- day activities towards ensuring the test environments are stable and available to project teams. He should be able to understand the standard operating procedures including build, maintain or execute the scheduled jobs and scripts, monitor performance, triage incidents and resolve technical issues so that the servers, databases, interfaces and downstream applications work as designed. This role requires the individual to work closely with infrastructure teams to understand the platform changes for project deployment and report to QA manager for test preparation and test readiness activities. As part of the environmental engineer role, the individual should be well versed with principles of configuration and service management, data workflow, architecture of the environments, backend administration and be able to prepare project and test plans when necessary.


Role responsibilities include:

  • Identify all test environments used by QA teams (includes logical name, version, and connection details)
  • Provide appropriate estimates to stand-up an environment
  • Document servers, database, and other key information
  • Work with Infrastructure team to obtain required hardware to stand-up appropriate environments
  • Provide Configuration Management to understand what changes have been introduce into the environment and who provided documented approval
  • Provide a project plan of when environments will be made available to QA team
  • Working with Support teams to understand latest changes in production and working with QA
  • Manager to confirm when changes can be introduced into lower level environment
  • Maintain environments for both onshore and offshore of all HBC IT departments
  • Leverage automation tools to provide consistent/repeatable deployments
  • Attend defect meetings as needed to determine changes being deployed into the environment
  • Take part in project planning and design sessions to determine environment requirements and request additional information/clarification as needed
  • Communicate when environments are down for maintenance to ensure that QA Leads can plan appropriately
  • Understand dependencies between project teams and escalate when conflict results
  • Design systems to support continuous delivery and adapt test environment management to support on-demand, self-service automation
  • Decommissioning outdated environments as needed

Job Qualifications

Personal Characteristics

The successful candidate will possess a strong aptitude for learning new technologies with a good understanding of the software development life cycle process. The successful candidate will need to have strong documentation and communication skills with an attention-to- detail, and be able to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team.


Professional Qualifications

  • Possesses a minimum of 5 years of Test Environment Management or Technical Architecture experience
  • 2-4 years' experience with Informatica
  • 2-4 years' experience with Unix
  • 2-4 years' experience with Oracle PL/SQL, .Net, Pro C, C, C++
  • Prior experience with ESP/UC4 (or other job scheduler tools)
  • Desirable working in Mainframe environments (JCL, Cobol)
  • Experience in Retail Merchandising, Point of sale, Stores, Logistics and EDW would be a plus
  • Understands Data Extract Transfers and Load
  • Understands SQL
  • Background in Architecture, Project Management, or Testing
  • Familiarity with various environment management tools
  • Ability to work off-business hours as needed
