What this position is all about


At HBC, we are undergoing a major technology transformation to embrace the latest technology changes in the industry. As part of that, we are migrating our critical infrastructure and application platforms to public clouds like Azure/AWS. The Sr Cloud Engineer is an experienced professional and an energetic individual who will help successfully manage cloud migration and operations. In addition, this individual is expected to display a high degree of ownership and transparency.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Create procedures/run books for operational and security aspects of cloud platforms
  • Improve cloud infrastructure by developing and enhancing automation methods
  • Provide advanced business and engineering support services for both in-house and external customers
  • Lead other admins and platform engineers through design and implementation decisions to achieve balance between strategic design and tactical needs
  • Resolve system and performance issues by careful analysis, debugging, identifying the root cause and applying corrective maintenance
  • Document all changes following controls, procedures and documentation standards and raises issues and concerns with recommendations for follow-up action
  • Provides expertise in specific cloud, hardware, software, utilities, and productivity aids used by Information Services, and advises others on their use
  • Acts in the capacity of final level in-house support, a mentor to junior staff providing guidance and technical expertise and as technical consultant to other departments within Information Services
Core Competencies
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent Azure/AWS, Microsoft, RedHat, certifications and knowledge of ITIL/MOF practices
  • 4+ years of experience working in global organizations with the ability to communicate with senior leaders
  • 4+ years of experience working on cloud design, setup, configuration and maintenance of cloud services
Technical Skills
  • Expert level knowledge of Azure/AWS cloud platforms
  • In depth experience with cloud design, setup, configuration and maintenance of Cloud services.
  • Broad cloud networking and security knowledge and experience including, but not limited to, VPCs, Security Groups and Direct Connect
  • Very good experience with the following
    • Microsoft Solutions, including Windows Server Operating Systems
    • Networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, etc.
    • Experience with automation and tools such as (but not limited to) Jenkins, Chef, Terraform, Ansible, etc.
    • Ability to create and maintain Automation (PowerShell, Python, Ruby, AWK, SED, etc.) to run health-checks and self-healing
    • Proficient with Git branching strategies, applying CI-CD principles to infrastructure build and deployment processes
    • Understanding and hands on experience in orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes.
    • Experience with ticketing tools like Jira, Cherwell, etc. and monitoring tools like Splunk, ELK, Nagios, SolarWinds, etc.
    • Hands on experience with the Linux Server solutions, including: RPM, Puppet, Satellite, LVM
    • Working knowledge of databases (Oracle, MS SQL, Teradata, DB2, etc.)
